When we have room, and the means, we take these dogs into our homes; if possible we adopt out those with a reasonable life-expectancy. We care for the rest as long as they have good quality of life. In addition, we try to assist owners in finding new homes for their senior dogs through our website and referrals."

PAINTINGS TO BENEFIT FERAL CAT COALITION OF OREGON

Art Helping Animals is happy to announce that the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon is one of our newest charities that we will be supporting through the sale of our art.
The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon is a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program for feral and stray cats living in Oregon. The goal of the program is to reduce suffering for existing feral cats and prevent the births and suffering of future generations. The program's services are targeted for feral cats who have caregivers feeding them. The caregivers trap the cats, bring them to a clinic, and return the cats to where they are being fed with a commitment to feed the cat(s) on a permanent basis.
FCCO's 24-foot mobile hospital, designed specifically for spaying/neutering feral cats, has three separate rooms: a surgery suite with room for three veterinarians to operate simultaneously; a prep area, complete with sink and autoclave; and also an anesthesia room. In addition to being spayed or neutered, each cat who participates in the program, is scanned for a microchip prior to treatment, receives FVRCP (distemper) and rabies vaccines, is flea combed and sprayed, treated for ear mites and other minor medical conditions and has his or her right ear tipped for future identification. Cats that appear to be suffering, as determined by a veterinarian, are tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV): all positives are euthanized.

Painting Whales Again

I'm very pleased to post this painting for our new charity, the Marine Mammal Care Center (http://www.mar3ine.org/aboutmmcc.htm). This piece brings me full circle to my beginnings as a professional artist. 30 years ago, I sold my first piece of art work for charity. I was a docent at a GreenPeace art auction in San Francisco. I didn't have anything in the auction. As a beginning artist, I didn't feel confident to put a piece in the auction. To bide my time, I brought my sketch book. I was just finishing up a sketch of a steno dolphin, when the gallery owner offered to purchase it from me for the auction. He bought it for $75.00. This started me off to donating more of my work to GreenPeace and other causes. At Greenpeace, I was fortunate to observe and learn from some of the greats in Marine Mammal art. Lou Silva, Larry Foster, Daniel Burgevin, George Sumner and Richard Ellis were all very helpful and shared so much of their knowledge and expertise. Those were very exciting times in the field of whale art. Prior to then, much of the depictions of whales were taken from dead whales either washed ashore or from the whaling ships. As new photos of live whales became available, our paintings changed. I remember in one instance, the revelation that a blue whale's lower jaw was not underslung. They actually have a bit of an overbite. It's nice to know that once again my skill can help......Robin Joy Andreae

Paintings to Benefit OLD DOG HAVEN Rescue

Old Dog Haven is an amazing rescue organization that works to provide loving homes for senior dogs abandoned in their twilight years. These elderly canines generally would have a slim-to-none chance of being adopted in a regular animal shelter situation. Old Dog Haven also provides Hospice care to senior dogs deemed too frail to be subjected to another change in living conditions, too sick to be rehomed, or with very limited time left to live. To learn more about this canine rescue please visit their web site at http://www.olddoghaven.org . Palmetto Equine Awareness and Rescue League...Dalmatians and Horses just go together...it is an essential part of the Dalmatian's History. "Coaching Dog" or "Fire Dog" they were the constant companions of working horses. This painting is offered to help the wonderful work of PEARL and all they do to help nourish needy horses, rescue, adoption, and educate the public about the needs of horses. A Dalmatian seascape of Lizzie (my Dalmatian model supreme) at the water's edge exploring the wave line. Art Helping Animals

I am so thrilled to be included here in such a dedicated and productive company of artists who create for the welfare of the neediest animals. Combining my love of art and my love for animals and to try to help make a difference in their lives is a blessing to me. Included here is my latest offering for charity. "Keep Looking Up" is the title of this oil painting. The Dalmatian is my own favorite breed, although, I love all breeds and "no particular breed"...I grew up with a Dal and have always had one. I try to help out with Dalmatian rescue and the neediest Dals through Save the Dalmatians and Others Canine Rescue org. by offering these paintings for charity auction when I can. It is one small way to help. Art Helping Animals artists paint for a variety of charities, Save the Dals is one of them. Visit the the entire site to see all the good work being done on behalf of the animals in need, no matter the breed, or type of animal...horse, cat, dog, wildlife, marine mammal...we are working to make a difference in their lives...one animal at a time! The perfect way to enjoy art and help too! .....Carol Chretien
