TBAR TALK - April

Spring Time in Rescue

It’s springtime and with that brings more adoptions AND more puppies coming into rescue. We have found homes for 5 puppies, 4 dogs, several cats and kittens and 4 horses so far but we still have a lot of animals that need homes and more coming in every day. We have three litters of pups that need homes so if you’re looking for a heeler mix, an Australian shepherd mix or a lab mix, check out the web page in the next week for our new puppy pictures! If it’s a kitty that you were looking for, Tbar’s the place to find one. The newest babies are now listed on the web page and some are ready to go home with you! If you know anyone who is looking for a new pet, please tell them to consider rescue. If Tbar doesn’t have one that’s right for them they can check out www.petfinder.com for the perfect rescue pet!

TBar's 6-Week Foster Care Program for Dogs
It's a fact: socialized and trained dogs find forever homes faster. We love our foster homes! Not only do our foster homes maximize the number of animals TBAR can rescue, they provide a comfortable home setting that keeps the animals happy and healthy. Foster homes provide valuable socialization and one on one rehabilitation.

If you've got room in your heart and in your home, consider becoming a part of our six-week foster care program. For more information go to http://www.t-bar.org/foster.htm

Other Ways to Help
Over the winter months Tbar took in nearly 100 stray dogs and cats and another 24 horses that had been abused and neglected. This has put a strain on our resources so we need your help now more than ever. If you can’t foster or adopt, please support our upcoming fundraiser by purchasing and selling tickets or donating items to auction at our upcoming event. Here’s the details:

Pet Care Tips
After the recent pet food recall, many people are asking for recipes for homemade pet food and treats. The Tbar cookbook has a whole section dedicated to recipes for pet food and treats. Here's a popular sample from Tbar Volunteer/Member Coordinator Whitney Twiss--

Cheese Delights
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
4-5 Tb. water
1 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 400. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients to a stiff dough. Spoon out enough to form into the size of treat you desire. Flatten to about 1/4" thickness and place on ungreased cookie sheet. You can also roll out and use a cookie cutter. Bake 10-15 minutes until golden.

From Whitney: This is a favorite of my boys ! Grated carrots go well in this recipe too ! (Whitney and Anthony currently have 5 large dogs and are also fostering Maya)

Horsin' Around in the Kitchen-- a True Blue Animal Rescue Recipe Book is still available from the Tbar website or at the BookNook in downtown Brenham. Hurry, quantities are limited !

HAPPY TALES News - Dalmatian Rescue Tampa Bay

IT IS SO GREAT WHEN GOOD NEWS is SHARED...
This is Mildred...a.k.a...."Oreo"
she found her forever home through rescue...that second chance that saves a life.

A new "Mom" ...a new home...a new name!

On Sunday APRIL 15th the word went out through the rescue to the volunteers that Mildred was packed and ready to head to her new home...

this is the note about "Mildred/Oreo's" big day...
THE WAY HOME
Well we made it home.
Mildred in the cab of our truck and Bubba in the bed. It rained all the way home. Mildred was a bit snappish towards Bubba at first, so we decided it would be best if we kept them separated until we got home.
When we got home, she was very excited, acted as if she totally belonged here and explored all over the inside and perimeter of her new home. She met her aunt Deborah (who is our good friend, neighbor and also a former Dalmatian mom).
We unpacked and were all quite tired from the trip. After dinner, we all watched some television in bed (she did not get on the bed until I told her to get on, and Bubba was just fine with it) and then called it a night. She slept in her crate.
This morning we went on a walk to explore our neighborhood and upon returning from our long walk, she and Bubba played chase in the back yard. She most definitely has a greyhound run, as opposed to a dal run, about her. It seems, thanks to God and everyone involved, that it is going to work out just fine for all of us.
For some unknown reason, when we got home, the name Nadine came out of my mouth when addressing her, so we started calling her Nadine. She will probably be meeting her new doctor (Snyder) this week, just to say hello and give her a look over. Will keep you guys posted.
thanks again for all that you do!
["Nadine's" new mom]

This is the BEST of rescue! Support second chances for animals.

A Diamond in the Rough...B.O.N.E.S.

MAX AND DIAMOND ARE BEAGLE BABIES UP FOR ADOPTION!

Max is all little boy. He plays tough and loves to jump and play outside. However, he also loves to be held and petted and loved. And just look at those eyes...how could you not think he wants to be your best buddy! He is energetic, and will play with anything he can get, even the kitchen sponge. Like his sister on page 2, he does not poop in the house, but still is working on the rest of the house training He is working on remembering to tell you he has to go out BEFORE it is too late. This is really great for an 11 week old!! He also will stay in a crate during the day and at night with only a little whining.
MAX

Diamond is a sweet little girl that you can just see wanting to wear nothing but diamonds. She is very sweet and gentle and uses her beautiful eyes to get her way with all the other dogs. She is energetic and loves to play with her toys, dogs, kids, and even a cat. She does tend to jump all over kids when introduced to them, but she calms down quickly. Snuggling and licking are her favorite ways to tell you she loves you. She does not poop in the house, but is still working on the rest of the house training She is working on remembering to tell you she has to go out BEFORE it is too late. This is really great for an 11 week old!! Finally, she will stay in a crate during the day and at night with only a little whining (she is usually so tuckered out she falls right to sleep!).

Max and his sister Diamond are 2 baby beagles featured for adoption at BONES rescue.

TBAR's MaKayla, Shepherd-Labrador, Needs a Home

MaKayla wears a smile that only freedom and happiness can bring. One can only imagine the dangers MaKayla escaped -- she was found running loose with a chain hanging from her neck. Did she break free from a backyard 'prison' where she was chained and forgotten? Did she desperately free herself from an abusive situation? We only know that she found her way to True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) where she was pulled off the streets and kept safe from getting hit by a car.

When no one claimed her after running a found ad, MaKayla was spayed, vaccinated and is now available for adoption. This beautiful, year old, light orange and black shepherd / labrador mix loves life and seems to really enjoy her new-found freedom. (see her color picture at www.tbar.org)

If you love life and want someone to share it with, then MaKayla might be just the right dog for you!

FERAL CAT COALITION of OREGON - FCCO

What We Do
The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon is a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program for feral and stray cats living in Oregon. The goal of the program is to reduce suffering for existing feral cats and prevent the births and suffering of future generations. The program's services are targeted for feral cats who have caregivers feeding them. The caregivers trap the cats, bring them to a clinic, and return the cats to where they are being fed with a commitment to feed the cat(s) on a permanent basis.

FCCO's 24-foot mobile hospital, designed specifically for spaying/neutering feral cats, has three separate rooms: a surgery suite with room for three veterinarians to operate simultaneously; a prep area, complete with sink and autoclave; and also an anesthesia room. In addition to being spayed or neutered, each cat who participates in the program, is scanned for a microchip prior to treatment, receives FVRCP (distemper) and rabies vaccines, is flea combed and sprayed, treated for ear mites and other minor medical conditions and has his or her right ear tipped for future identification. Cats that appear to be suffering, as determined by a veterinarian, are tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV): all positives are euthanized.

UPDATE!

Record-Setting Year!

Last year was record setting for the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon. We spayed/neutered 3,309 cats, surpassing our previous annual record by nearly 100 cats! There are no other programs in our area providing the services of FCCO and it is your volunteer and financial support makes our program possible. You can have confidence that when you donate to the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, your support is helping cats. For every dollar donated, 92 cents is directed to fulfilling our mission of spaying/neutering, and community education. Let's make this year and other record breaker!

Seeing Spots ...Coast to Coast.

I'M READY WHEN YOU ARE"

"Sneakers" is a Dal that is looking for a home...he did inspire this little painting to help the rescue help him.
Across the country there are Dalmatian rescues saving, rehabbing and rehomeing DALMATIANS.
Dalmatians have always been my passion and I am happy when I can help a little to raise awareness and funds to for them.
I am owned by Lizzie, the most spoiled with love Dal on the planet...it is a BIG LOVE...and when I see how well she is loved and the life she lives (THEY ALL DESERVE IT!) it makes me want to do what I can to help those who have missed out on what she enjoys so well.

This painting is currently on ebay

eBay: Beach Dalmatian ocean Pup CHRETIEN for DRTB seascape (item 120105951654 end time Apr-10-07 12:19:10 PDT)

and available to help Dalmatian Rescue of Tampa Bay. An all volunteer rescue that fosters the Dals rescued from desperate situations and kill shelters. www.dalmatianrescuetampa.tripod.com for details to see what they do. 20% of the sale goes to help their Dals receiving medical care.

I am so fortunate to be able to use my art and creativity to help three different Dal Charities, Save the Dalmatians...in CA, Willing Hearts Dalmatian Rescue... OH, MD,PA area (2 official Art Helping Animals supported rescues) and now Dalmatian Rescue of Tampa Bay in FL. SPOTS Coast to coast.

I will be " seeing spots" for some time to come...and these rescues and their wonderful Dals make a perfect Muse to keep me inspired to help!

T-Bar Name: Casper
T-Bar Number: D161
Weight: 30 lbs
Sex: Male puppy
Age on 9/2006: 6 months
Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shepherd
Color: White with Tan Highlights
Adoption Fee: $50
**Special Needs** Casper is SHY!
Location: Brenham, Texas
Description: Casper is a water baby! He loves to swim! If you're looking for a wonderful, family dog, then Casper could be your dog. Casper has a big heart, but since his mom and his siblings were fending for themselves before coming to True Blue Animal Rescue, he is still very shy with people. He doesn't come up to you; and leaves it up to you to approach him. Casper needs a loving, patient forever home and in the meantime, he would really benefit from a foster family who was willing to spend time with him and teach him to trust people. See a bigger picture of Casper
Do you have some extra love to spare?
Fostering one of our dogs, like Casper, for a month would make them more adoptable so they can find a forever home of their own. When you foster, all food and vet bills will be paid by True Blue Animal Rescue. We can also provide a crate for you to borrow if needed. If you are willing to foster Casper or one of the other shy TBar dogs please call for more information at 936/878-2349.

SKIPPY...needs a home!

"Looking at you, Looking at me"

Skippy is waiting for adoption at B.O.N.E.S., the BEAGLE rescue of New England.
He was one of the Limington rescues and is now ready for his forever home.

The painting above was inspired by his spunky attitude to survive his experience.

Please READ ON!

(BONES is an ART HELPING ANIMALS supported rescue charity!)

"Skippy"
4 year old male, good with dogs, cats and children over 4
One of the boys in the worst shape from his rescue situation, we were worried about Skippy.

He was scared and skinny when he arrived, but has blossomed into a wonderful boy. Skippy is now 99% house trained, happy and social. He loves playing with his foster brother, but enjoys attention from his foster mother the most of all.

A true lap dog, Skippy really loves to be close to you, in your lap or being cuddled. He's learned a lot about house living from his foster home, lots of basic manners and even how to go for walks nicely on a leash. Skippy is a really enjoyable boy to have around, small, compact and cuddly.....you can't ask for more!
This painting is offered on Ebay to assist BONES with their beagle health care.
