Help Protect Manatees and other Marine Mammals

Ask Your Representative to Oppose H.R. 4075

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on amendments to the Marine Mammal Protection Act the week of May 15, and we urgently need your help to uphold this important conservation law. The bill most likely to move (H.R. 4075) is sponsored by Rep. Richard Pombo, R-Calif., and would severely weaken many of the Act's key provisions.

Adopted in 1972, the Marine Mammal Protection Act provides federal protection for manatees and other marine mammals, including restrictions on products derived from these animals, and greatly enhances the provisions of the federal Endangered Species Act.

What You Can Do:

Please contact your U.S. representative and ask him or her to Oppose H.R. 4075 or any other effort to weaken the Marine Mammal Protection Act:

1. Send a quick online letter: Our friends at the Center for Biological Diversity have provided an online letter on this issue that you can send to your congressperson. Just click on the link below:

OR

2. Call your representative or send a personal letter or e-mail:
You can get his or her contact information by visiting www.congress.org. Just click on the Congress button in the left-hand menu and enter your zip code in the next screen. It's that easy!

Thanks for your help on this important issue for marine mammals. - Robin Andreae
