TBAR TALK - April

Spring Time in Rescue

It’s springtime and with that brings more adoptions AND more puppies coming into rescue. We have found homes for 5 puppies, 4 dogs, several cats and kittens and 4 horses so far but we still have a lot of animals that need homes and more coming in every day. We have three litters of pups that need homes so if you’re looking for a heeler mix, an Australian shepherd mix or a lab mix, check out the web page in the next week for our new puppy pictures! If it’s a kitty that you were looking for, Tbar’s the place to find one. The newest babies are now listed on the web page and some are ready to go home with you! If you know anyone who is looking for a new pet, please tell them to consider rescue. If Tbar doesn’t have one that’s right for them they can check out www.petfinder.com for the perfect rescue pet!

TBar's 6-Week Foster Care Program for Dogs
It's a fact: socialized and trained dogs find forever homes faster. We love our foster homes! Not only do our foster homes maximize the number of animals TBAR can rescue, they provide a comfortable home setting that keeps the animals happy and healthy. Foster homes provide valuable socialization and one on one rehabilitation.

If you've got room in your heart and in your home, consider becoming a part of our six-week foster care program. For more information go to http://www.t-bar.org/foster.htm

Other Ways to Help
Over the winter months Tbar took in nearly 100 stray dogs and cats and another 24 horses that had been abused and neglected. This has put a strain on our resources so we need your help now more than ever. If you can’t foster or adopt, please support our upcoming fundraiser by purchasing and selling tickets or donating items to auction at our upcoming event. Here’s the details:

Pet Care Tips
After the recent pet food recall, many people are asking for recipes for homemade pet food and treats. The Tbar cookbook has a whole section dedicated to recipes for pet food and treats. Here's a popular sample from Tbar Volunteer/Member Coordinator Whitney Twiss--

Cheese Delights
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
4-5 Tb. water
1 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 400. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients to a stiff dough. Spoon out enough to form into the size of treat you desire. Flatten to about 1/4" thickness and place on ungreased cookie sheet. You can also roll out and use a cookie cutter. Bake 10-15 minutes until golden.

From Whitney: This is a favorite of my boys ! Grated carrots go well in this recipe too ! (Whitney and Anthony currently have 5 large dogs and are also fostering Maya)

Horsin' Around in the Kitchen-- a True Blue Animal Rescue Recipe Book is still available from the Tbar website or at the BookNook in downtown Brenham. Hurry, quantities are limited !
