The Humane Index

A well known football star engages in dog fighting and abuses animals. His name is Vick and he is the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons and he has been indicted by a Federal Jury. Anyone who lives in the US and reads the paper knows the story.

The question is how humane is our culture when dog fighting as a "blood sport" is on the rise?

Did you know that 63% of American households have pets? Did you know that a society's level of development can be judged by the way they treat animals?

So, how humane do you think the United States is? How humane is your state? Your city? and what can you do to help?

The HSUS (The Humane Society of the US) is working to have some answers to these questions. Check out the Humane Index and find out how your city is doing and find out how you can help the animals and the culture support humane activities .

Sandra, this index is great. I am saddened that Houston is below average, but happy to know that the Houston SPCA and Harris County Animal Control are two who are doing good works. I will be saving this link for future research. Thanks for posting it.
